At Cambridge High School, a sandblasted concrete artwork initially lacked sufficient contrast to read clearly.
Materials & application
ECOTONE applied a customised Matt wash to the matrix, enhancing the contrast while leaving the aggregate stones exposed — preserving the raw texture while defining the artwork clearly.
Outcome
The collaboration made artist Eugene Kara's design stand out while maintaining concrete integrity. The design draws on Māori patterns, particularly poutama, representing one's journey through life and towards attaining knowledge — balancing modern aesthetics with traditional influences in a visually striking, culturally rich result.
